JUNE IS BIKE MONTH

This year's theme is SAFETY and we've tried to approach it from a couple of perspectives;

On one hand BIKE MONTH is about fun, activity, and getting out and riding! Cycling enthusiasts can do more of it. Casual cyclists can get inspired to haul out their bikes and remember how easy and how much fun it is. From that side, BIKE MONTH is about events, and the safety campaign aims to help cyclists be safe while they are doing it.

On the other hand, we live in cities congested with traffic and cyclists have to be aware and cautious at all times. Cyclists, pedestrians, wheelchair users, roller bladers and other human-powered folks are "vulnerable road users and motor vehicles need to Look Out for them. Our transit shelter, bus ads, Skytrain platform, and online ads emphasize the need for drivers to be vigilant and alert to cyclists. That portion of the campaign was designed by Grey Advertising and we think they designed a very effective campaign. The online version has already begun, and the transit ads will start appearing May 31 in some locations, June 7 in others.

So--explore the site, read the safe cycling tips, check out the Best Routes to School mapping project, visit the events calendar.

But above all get out and ride, and have FUN!

Bike to Work and School Week kicks off May 31 - June 4. Sign up soon if you haven't yet. Get geared up for summer cycling.

The  Event Calendar

now has close to 60 events listed throughout Metro Vancouver  please email us.

For cyclists, Bike Month is one of the BEST times of year. The streets fill with other happy individuals and families sharing the joy of human-propelled locomotion, fresh air exercise, and good health.

The Bicycle Valet BEST will be providing Bicycle Valet services at as many of these events as we can be at.

Look for the signs for safe, secure, and easy bike parking.

Get out and Cycle

The best safety tip is to simply get out and ride, creating critical ooze and safety in numbers.

Check out the staggering number of fun BIKE MONTH events events and cycling tips on this website.  We want you to look around and take advantage of all of the great things going on during bike month! But don't just leave it at event-use your bike to shop, picnic, commute, go to the library, go to the movies.

The more commuters, shoppers, families and children ride bicycles, the more room they take up the more visible they become, and the more care drivers get used to seeing them, watching for them, and accommodating them, and the safer it is. In addition, the more people choose cycling over driving, the fewer cars there are on the roads, and that means less congestion, less traffic frustration, and less danger for cyclists.
