Dunbar: You Can Ride Here

Dunbar is a great area to cycle!

Join us June 25th for a Cycling Celebration!

Dunbar Library 10 AM to 12 noon.

IGA on 41st 1 PM- 3 PM

Dunbar is a vibrant community, home to a thriving commercial and social centre that can be reached by a number of bike ways or quiet neighbourhood streets. If you live within a few kilometers of this great local community you'll rapidly a agree that cycling is a fun, easy, and efficient way to get around. And, in this neighbourhood, you feel like you're cycling in a garden.

But what about those HILLS? And the construction?

It's true, Dunbar spans a hill. From 16th Ave. in the north up over the crest to 41st. It is also approached from both the east and the west. What's the best way to deal with hills? Ride often, regularly, and take your time. If you're not used to riding, don't push yourself, gear down and take it slowly. It's not a race; you don't have to prove how tough you are or how fast you can go. Enjoy. If you need help choosing a bike that works for view or download our handy brochure on Choosing a Bicycle and Accessories, or visit one of the local bikes shops. They'll be happy to help you select a bike that suits you needs and level.

You'll be surprised at quickly it becomes easier. You'll feel great! You'll be more fit and healthier. And you can reward yourself with a nice treat at one of the many coffee shops and restaurants.

A Cycling Friendly-Communnity

Dunbar loves cycling! In March of this year they held a celebration of cycling, featuring it in the Dunbar Life magazine and holding a street festival to celebrate the new cycling lane that transverses Dunbar. A designated lane makes it easier to navigate in traffic while shopping, and give both you and your stuff some elbow room.

Riding Around Dunbar:

Along with the new lane on Dunbar itself, The Ridgeway, 29th Ave and Midtown Bikeways all make it easy to approach Dunbar. Neighbourhood bike ways have the value of being on less busy streets, and in the City of Vancouver, vehicle speed is lDunbarlimited to 30 km/hr. But you don't have to limit yourself to designated routes. riding anywhere in the Dunbar neighbourhood is a pretty pleasant experience, with the tree-lined streets, beautiful gardens, and some great seasonal decorations that make riding all year, nor just in Bike Month, a joy

If you are coming from UBC, the SW Marine Bikeway bike lane and the West 37th neighbourhood bikeway is a safe and quick option.

Whether you are going to your local Community Centre, Library, cafe, or other businesses, cycling works to reduce congestion and green house gas emissions, and keeps you fit an healthy while supporting your local businesses and events.

It's your neighbourhood. Riding here lets you get to know it better and immerses you in the community.

Shop, socialize, work, play, accompany kids to school and baseball, soccer or other sport. Invite your friends and head on over for a ride through Pacific Spirit park. everything is here, and it all accessible by bike.
